Bible Reading Plan

For the purpose of this Bible reading plan, we have divided the Bible into four categories:

  1. Origins of the Faith & History of Israel; these are the first five books of the Old Testament, Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy.  And then the historical books Joshua through Job.
  2. The Writings; these books include Psalms, Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, and Song of Solomon.
  3. The Prophets; these are all the books from Isaiah through Malachi.
  4. The New Testament.

As you can see, from the example chart below, the plan is broken up on a weekly basis with 4 assigned chapters to be read daily.  When you complete a book, you then proceed to the next book within the particular category.  For example, Genesis has fifty chapters; when you finish chapter 50, the proceeding day you would begin reading Exodus, starting at chapter 1.  You continue this method of progression from one chapter to the next, and one book to the next until you have completed reading all the books of the category.  Now, some of the categories have more books than others.  For example, both the categories The Writings and the New Testament have less than 250 chapters in each category.  Following this method, you will complete both of these categories about 70 days before finishing the other categories.  When you complete a category, do not shorten your Bible reading; instead add an additional chapter from one of the other categories that you have not completed.

If you purposely follow this plan of reading four chapters a day, you will read the complete Bible in approximately 309 days and will have firmly established a habit of daily spending time in the Word.

The first week is filled out with the appropriate chapters to get you started.  The chart that follows will allow you to track where you are on a daily basis.  Don't get discouraged if you miss a chapter or a day; just simply adjust the chart to reflect where you are and keep going.

Remember the goal is to build your relationship with the Father.  It is very easy for some of us to get caught up in the knowledge or legalism of a program.  Relationship always supersedes the program!
